Contract Tips

To avoid disappointment, there are some simple points that driving instructors should look for when reviewing contracts with driving schools:

  1. Ensure That The Contract Is A Two Way Contract: A two way contract will clearly state the minimum level of service that the driving instructor will get from the school. Ensure this is in WRITING and NOT a verbal agreement.
  2. Ensure That The Contract Defines Holidays: You don't want to be paying a franchise fee when you decide to take time off!
  3. Ensure The Contract Clearly States The Notice Period: Some Driving Schools deliberately specify long breakout clauses so that it is financially unviable for the driving instructor to leave!
  4. Understand Break Out Clauses: Think about what happens if you fall ill?
  5. Understanding Who Is Responsible For Advertisement: Some driving schools state that their service is only to provide the driving instructor with branding rights, and it's up to the instructor to promote themselves and get the work in!
  6. Understand The Level Office Support You Can Expect To Get Some driving schools don't have an office team and it is up the driving instructor to contact all pupils and confirm leads.
  7. Most Importantly - Ensure The Contract Clearly Defines What Happens If No Work Is Supplied!: You dont want to be paying a franchise fee if you are not being provided with work!
